Understanding and constructively using natural sound in the ocean has become of prime importance with the scientific revolution precipitated by the end of the Cold War, and the realization of the importance of responsible global management. This was the first meeting on the subject since the fall of the Soviet-Western barriers, and the proceedings include contributions from premier researchers from the former Soviet Union.
