This book explores the construction of hybrid identities of East African Asians in Moyez G. Vassanji's Novels: The Gunny Sack and No New Land. Specifically, it discusses how narration affects and is affected by the multiple and ambivalent identities in the diasporic subjects whose histories are narrated by Vassanji. The aim of this book is to investigate the projection of hybridity as a positive aspect of cultural identity in postcolonial discourse and analyze how memory and history are harnessed through the retelling of multiple non-linear histories of postcolonial subjects. It also explains the use of hybridity to question the concept of nationhood as constructed by nationalist ideologies.
