Die Dynamik und nicht-lineare Beziehung zwischen Mathematik und Architektur§§Während Mathematik in der Architektur historisch mit Vorstellungen von Ordnung, Proportion und idealer Form verbunden war, hat sich die Disziplin Mathematik selbst verändert, um Unschärfe, Unvollständigkeit, Relativität und Chaos zu berücksichtigen hin zu einer Situation, in der Wahrheit selbst schwer fassbar wird. Dieser Schritt geht teilweise auf eine Beschäftigung mit realen Phänomenen zurück, wo gezeigt wurde, dass natürliche Systeme nichtlinear und unvorhersehbar reagieren. In der Architektur ist eine neue Art von Idealismus entstanden, nachdem IT-Entwicklungen, die dynamisches und veränderbares Darstellen ermöglichen, von Design und Produktion in unsere Kultur integriert wurden. In formaler Hinsicht produktiv und von Natur aus vielgestaltig, werden algorithmische Wahrheit und statistische Ergebnisse gegenüber vorherbestimmten Zielen vorgeschlagen; das bedeutet einen Rückzug von der Realität hin zu Abstraktion und Simulation in den reibungslosen Raum der Wahrscheinlichkeit. Währenddessen haben die Auswirkungen von Unschärfe unsere Kultur in ihr Innerstes erfüllt. This move stems in part from an engagement with real phenomena, in which natural systems were shown to behave non-linearly and unpredictably. In architecture, while computational developments enabling dynamic and variable modeling have been subsumed into our culture of design and production, a new kind of idealism has emerged. Formally prolific and inherently multiplicitous, this book proposes algorithmic truth and statistical outcomes over predetermined objectives; it signifies a retreat away from reality and back towards abstraction and simulation in the smooth space of possibility. Meanwhile, the consequences of uncertainty have pervaded our culture to its core. Recovering from the initial high of fractal and random geometrical proficiency, architecture is just beginning to re-embrace the underlying issues embedded within this contemporary mathematics: uncertainty, unpredictability, chance, recursion, wildness, and informality.
